Abandoned & Derelict Vehicles

Vehicles left abandoned in streets and on properties are an ongoing issue in the City of Whitehorse. Council has local laws in place that are designed to help prevent this problem.

Any motor vehicle that has been abandoned or is unregistered and parked on Council controlled land including roads and parks, may be removed and impounded by Council. If the vehicle is not claimed within 14 days and release fees paid, Council may dispose of it. Council allows vehicles that are currently registered to be in the same position in a street for 14 days.

If a vehicle is unregistered, Council allows up to 14 days for the vehicle to be registered or removed or the vehicle may be impounded at the owner's expense. The owner of the vehicle may also be fined for failing to comply with Council's request to remove the vehicle.

If you have found an abandoned or unregistered sticker on the windscreen of your vehicle, please contact the Community Laws Department immediately on 9262 6394.
