Whitehorse City Council

Amendment C181

Vegetation Protection Overlay – Schedule 5 (VPO5) identifies significant indigenous, native and exotic vegetation. Put simply, it identifies land that is special because it has individual trees or groups of trees that are of significance, natural beauty, interest and importance.

It means that a planning permit will be required to remove, destroy or lop any vegetation identified in VPO5. Any other vegetation that is not referred to in the schedule will not require a planning permit to be removed (unless it is subject to another overlay or planning control which may apply to the land). The VPO does not change the zoning of the land or introduce any planning permit requirements for buildings and works or subdivision.

Amendment 181 went on public exhibition in August/September 2015 and 11 submissions were received from our community.

At its meeting on 23 November 2015 Council requested that the amendment and all the submissions be considered by an independent panel, which was held on the 21 January 2016. The pdf icon  Amendment C181 Panel Report (266.68kB) is now available and will be considered at a future Council meeting.

Council considered the Panel Report at the meeting on 18 April and resolved to adopt the amendment.

The amendment was approved by the Minister for Planning on 9 august 2016 and was gazetted on 25 August 2016.
