Box Hill Historical Society

Local History Room is open to the public for research. Resources include: photos, newspapers, maps, rate books, family & oral histories, local history subject files, Box Hill Cemetery records. (Burwood History Group records now incorporated in the collection.) There are a number of searchable indexes on our website.

Family History Connections

For family historians: resource library, research centre, classes for members and non members, seminars and interest groups. Staffed and run by volunteers who enjoy interacting with others who share an interest in history and family history research.

Schwerkolt Cottage

Built in the 1880s by one of the area's earliest pioneers this stone cottage has been restored to its original condition and furnished in a style of the period.

Surrey Hills Historical Society

Meetings the third Tuesday of the month February to November in the Maitland Room of the Cottage, Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre (SHNC) at 8 pm. Members and other volunteers work with the SHNC Heritage Collection on Mondays, 10am-3pm. Items from the collection are catalogued onto Victorian Collections and posts about collection items can be viewed on Surrey Hills History Facebook. Office email is heritage@surreyhillsnc.org.au
