Whitehorse City Council

Preventing Violence Against Women Forum

Whitehorse City Council hosted the Stop Working in Silence – Preventing Violence Against Women Forum on the 28 November 2014. The forum provided an opportunity to explore the experiences and impacts of violence against women who have a disability, women from culturally and linguistically diverse communities and older women.  Presentations from local organisations aimed to develop an understanding of the services and supports available to women who have experienced violence.

The discussion of violence against is often general in nature assuming that all women’s experiences and the impacts of violence are similar; however, this is not the case. Women with a disability, women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and older women face additional barriers. The Stop Working in Silence – Preventing Violence Against Women Forum provided an opportunity to raise awareness of the impacts of violence against women who have a disability, who originate from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds or who experience elder abuse.

Presentations can be downloaded below.
