2011 Near Infrared Digital Aerial Photography Supply Is Now Available

Council is pleased to announce the release of the 2011 Near Infrared (NIR) Digital Aerial Photography supply on Whitehorse Mapping - GIS Online. This NIR imagery uses a different portion of the light spectrum which is not visible to the human eye. The imagery is processed by specialised imagery hardware/software where the resulting colours relate to the composition and moisture content of the material photographed.  The 2011 NIR Digital Aerial Photography supply can be viewed by checking the 'NIR Aerial Photography' layer when zoomed into the map.

Council is pleased to announce the release of the 2011 Digital Aerial Photography supply on Whitehorse Mapping - GIS Online. This updated dataset replaces the 2009 imagery previously available. The 2011 supply can be viewed by checking the Aerial Photography layer when zoomed into the map.

NEW Development - City of Whitehorse Local Flora
As part of Council's extensive use of spatial information, Council has released the 'Whitehorse local flora', a spatial database that maps the distribution of indigenous plant species to indicate where they likely occurred prior to white settlement.  This spatial database spatially intersects with the Property layer, delivering to you, a list of plant species indigenous to your property and factsheets for individual plant species.  To try it out, simply follow the steps below:

-  Search for your property using the 'search' function.  Once your property is highlighted on the map and the 'information display' is populated with data, simply click the 'link' to retrieve an indigenous plant species list and links to plant factsheets.

-  Navigate (by using the 'Zoom'/'Pan' tools in the toolbar) to your property, select your property using the 'select tool', then in the 'information bar' simply click the 'link' to retrieve an indigenous plant species list and links to plant factsheets.

2007 Aerial Photography Now Available!

Council is pleased to announce the release of 2007 Aerial Photography on Whitehorse Mapping - GIS Online. This updated dataset replaces the 2005 imagery previously available. The 2007 imagery can be viewed by checking the Aerial Photography layer when zoomed in.

NEW LAYER – Playgrounds

As part of the recent improvements to Whitehorse Mapping - GIS Online, a new layer, Playgrounds, is now yours to explore. The layer shows playground facilities located throughout the city. The layer contains Play Equipment, Exercise Circuits, Skate Facilities and Ball Courts. A playgrounds search has also been provided as part of the Zoom to Place of Interest function.
 
Improved Functionality following Upgrade

Whitehorse Mapping – GIS Online recently underwent a major revision, resulting in a number of additions and improvements. The enhancements were focused around delivering new functionality and more information with increased performance. So what’s new?:

  • Layer Information (Metadata) – accessed via hyperlinks on layer name in the MAP LAYERS listing.
  • Added Green Organics collection dates to Information Display.
  • Added Street Tree Pruning service dates to Information Display.
  • Revised display of recycling and hard and green waste dates.
  • Links from Information Display headings to Council’s website, providing further information on council services.
  • New map layers – Foot and Bike Tracks and School Crossings (see below).
  • Increased ‘mouse-over’ tool-tips for added usability.
  • Increased performance – it’s now quicker to save you time!
  • And much more!

All existing and new functionality has been fully tested with Internet Explorer 7 - so what are you waiting for? The new and improved Whitehorse Mapping - GIS Online is yours to explore today!
 
NEW LAYER – Foot and Bike Tracks

As part of the recent improvements to Whitehorse Mapping - GIS Online, a new layer, Foot and Bike Tracks, is now yours to explore. The layer shows designated pedestrian and bicycle facilities in and around the city. The layer contains walking tracks, bike paths, shared trails, on-road bike lanes, bridges, tunnels, boardwalks and track names. 
 
NEW LAYER – School Crossings

As part of the recent improvements to Whitehorse Mapping – GIS Online, a new layer, School Crossings, is now available. The layer shows locations of school crossings within the municipality – perfect for planning a safe route to school.
 
Extended Functionality for Melway Grid Search

Whitehorse Mapping – GIS Online recently received a boost with some added functionality for the Zoom to Melway Grid search. Users now have the ability to specify whether or not the Melway Grid is displayed as part of the search. This setting is controlled via the ‘Show Melway Grid’ checkbox located above the ‘Search’ button. This is checked by default. 
 
Improved Usability

Whitehorse Mapping – GIS Online is now even easier to use. The 'MAP LAYERS' listing now incorporates the automatic grouping of ‘like’ layers. This improves the amount of layers controllable, while at the same time reducing the amount of clicks required saving you time!

Added Functionality – Education Search

Recent improvements to Whitehorse Mapping – GIS Online, now allows searching for schools, universities or other educational institutions within Whitehorse. The new ‘Education’ class is an expansion of the 'Zoom to Place of Interest' utility, part of ‘SEARCH’ facility found at the right of the interface.  
 
Improved Usability Following Upgrade

Whitehorse Mapping - GIS Online recently underwent its most major upgrade since its release. Improvements have focused around enhancing usability through refining functionality and improving stability. So what’s new?

  • An enhanced MAP LAYERS listing, providing additional information on layer display
  • A refined Address Search facility, which matches your address even better than before
  • A fully revised Help function, which is easier to use
  • Added ‘Zoom to Place of Interest’ search functionality
  • A new layer – Neighbourhood Houses (see below)

NEW LAYER – Neighbourhood and Community Houses

As part of the recent upgrade to Whitehorse Mapping – GIS Online, a new layer, Neighbourhood Houses, is now yours to explore. The layer shows the location of Neighbourhood and Community Houses within the municipality. You can even use the ‘Zoom to Place of Interest’ search functionality to help locate a particular Neighbourhood or Community House!
 
New Council Information Available

Did you know Whitehorse Mapping – GIS Online can be used to determine the councillors for each ward? This information has been updated to include new councillors elected in the recent ballot. Determining current Councillors is as simple as selecting or searching for a property and viewing the related Ward and Councillor information.
 
NEW LAYER – Street Tree Pruning Program

Council's Street Tree Pruning Program can now be viewed on Whitehorse Mapping - GIS Online. The new Street Tree Pruning layer shows when the council will be trimming the trees in your street.
 
Expanded Melway Grid Functionality

Whitehorse Mapping – GIS Online has recently received improvements to its 'Zoom to Melway Grid' functionality. You can now search and zoom to map 75A grid references. Map 75A is a 1:10 000 scale enlargement of the Box Hill area as first published in the 2004 (Edition 31) of the Melway Street Directory. These changes are reflected in the 'Melway Grid' layer which displays the grid for map 75A. 
 
Whitehorse Welcomes Data Amendment Advice

Since its launch over two weeks ago, Whitehorse Mapping – GIS Online had been a big success. So much so we are even receiving advice on data amendments from users.
We welcome any data amendments you may wish to advise - after all, accurate information allows us to effectively service the community. All amendments will be incorporated into our bi-monthly data update program for Whitehorse Mapping - GIS Online. To advise us of an amendment, please use the 'Contact Us' links displayed throughout the website.
