Drop-in info session on the Nunawading Community Hub

9 Nov 2017

A community information day this month will give people the chance to learn about the new Nunawading Community Hub project and to view the concept design for this great Council initiative.

Whitehorse Mayor Councillor Andrew Davenport said he was thrilled with the concept design and hoped community members would take the chance to drop into the hub site for the information day on Saturday 25 November.

“The hub will become the new, vibrant heart of Nunawading; a communal meeting place where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together to embrace new opportunities for learning, social interaction and getting active,” Cr Davenport said.

“Architectural firm Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp has developed the concept design based on information gathered through the extensive consultation process conducted with Silver Grove Nunawading user groups. These groups will move into the hub when it opens.

“The concept plan also reflects Council’s strategic planning for the area in meeting the needs of the broader community well into the future.”

Key features of the new community hub include a refurbished heritage school building, multi-functional classrooms and meeting rooms, specially fitted-out spaces for dance, art, counselling and lapidary activities, a purpose-built Meals on Wheels facility and a multi-purpose sports stadium.

There is also a targeted 5-Star Green Star Rating incorporating solar renewable energy, rainwater harvesting, natural light, low energy lighting, natural and durable materials.

The hub will be integrated with Tunstall Park through landscaping, enhancement of open green spaces, new pedestrian and cycling paths, and areas for passive recreation.
