Whitehorse City Council’s Youth Services is looking for young people to get involved in the municipality in 2018.
Whitehorse Mayor Councillor Andrew Davenport said places are currently available for those aged 12-25 years on the Whitehorse Youth Representative Committee (WYRC) and FReeZa Committee’s Flying Pig Events.
“Both areas offer the perfect chance to use a range of skills, learn new ones and get valuable experience to add to a resume. Volunteers have a rare opportunity to gain an understanding of council and their local community,” Cr Davenport said.
Those interested in learning about and practising leadership skills can apply for a place on the WYRC. This committee focuses on youth leadership, youth issues and being a voice for young people and communicating their ideas, opinions and needs to council and the local community.
The WYRC gets involved in a range of annual events including a Youth Forum tackling important youth issues, IDAHOT Day activities, Spring Festival and National Youth Week.
The FReeZA Committee’s Flying Pig Events has its focus on event management in the arenas of music, art and culture.
“Young people involved in Flying Pig Events have an awesome opportunity to organise safe, affordable, drug, alcohol and smoke free events for all young people in Whitehorse. Events include the Battle of the Bands, Spring Festival and Global Fiesta,” Cr Davenport said.
Training provided to FReeZA members includes event management and training in the use of audio visual equipment. Members gain insights into the music, arts and cultural industries as well as being included in broader events and training provided by The Push, a not-for-profit organisation supporting FReeZA.
Applications for both committees close on Wednesday 31 January 2018. For more information and a full position description, phone Jacqueline Piper at Youth Services on 9898 9340, email Jacqueline.email@example.com or visit www.whitehorse.vic.gov.au/Youth-Services.html
