Smarter Living sessions teach simple, low-waste solutions

Council’s popular Smarter Living sessions return this March, bringing you monthly free sessions outlining tips for simple, thrifty, low-waste living.

Whitehorse Mayor Councillor Andrew Davenport said this year’s experts presenting fabulous content include Craig Reucassel from TV’s War on Waste, comedian Wendy Harmer and Melbourne community gardening experts Cultivating Community.

“These sessions offer ideas, down-to-earth advice and practical tips for leading a sustainable life at home. Get ideas, suggestions, recipes and more on offer from experts in their field who are passionate about educating others on simple, achievable, fun practices to save money and keep waste down without any hassle attached,” Cr Davenport said.

“The sessions begin this year with The Garden Gurus and Gardenettes presenter Melissa King on the virtues of root to tip cooking with a demonstration, tasty recipes and lots of advice to make the concept a really inviting one.”

Melissa King is one of Australia’s most popular and respected garden experts and television presenters. She is also the author of Garden Feast focusing on the delights of cooking and growing your own heirloom vegetables, with the help of recipes from the famous Heronswood kitchen.  Melissa’s cooking demonstration will focus on recipes that will help you use up the parts of vegetables that you otherwise may have discarded, edible flowers and more– tantalising your taste buds, saving you money and reducing waste all at once!
