Budding young musicians who enter the Whitehorse heat of the Battle of the Bands 2018 have the chance to win great prizes and perform in a prestigious regional competition.
Whitehorse Councillor Tina Liu said the Battle of the Bands showcased young musicians each year to give them the opportunity to perform, gain local exposure and win their way to a spot in the Push Over Festival line up.
“All young people who would like to get public exposure for their music are welcome to join and entry is free. The competition is open to any style of music, including bands, solo and duo acts,” Cr Liu said.
There are two categories for young people to enter:
• Competition! Compete in our Push Start Competition heat for the opportunity to move up into the Regional Finals and win a spot in the Push Festival Line up held in St. Kilda.
• Open Showcase! Perform without the pressure of competing and gain some valuable performing experience
The event is run by Flying Pig Events, part of Council’s FreeZa Committee, a group of young committed volunteers working with Whitehorse Youth Services.
FReeZA is an innovative youth development program funded by the Victorian Government providing young people between the ages of 12 and 25 the opportunity to attend affordable and accessible music and cultural events.
Entries to perform in the Whitehorse heat of the Battle of the Bands close at 5pm, Monday 2 July and the competition will be held on Friday 27 July.
