Aqualink’s got it covered for older people

12 Jul 2018

Council’s leisure facilities, Aqualink Box Hill and Aqualink Nunawading, are committed to healthy ageing and offer group fitness classes perfect for older people.

Whitehorse Councillor Tina Liu said both centres offer a Fab Living program specifically tailored for those over 60 years.

“The Fab Living program is a health, wellness and social program designed for the needs of older adults. Aerobic fitness and strength training are part of the classes on offer and all are led by fully trained and experienced instructors,” Cr Liu said.

The opportunity to socialise is an important part of belonging to Aqualink. Most mornings, after group fitness classes, the ‘Fabbies’ catch up for coffee in the cafe.

“Whether exercising alone or with friends, Aqualink centres are vibrant, social venues with large fitness studios and pools to accommodate older people wanting to get fit, stay fit or improve strength and mental agility that comes with physical activity,” Cr Liu said.

“The classes run across the week at various times of the day and evening, and cater to members as well as casual Aqualink users. One of the things I love about Aqualink memberships is the fact that the same membership allows access to both centres.”

Classes include:

  • Aqua classes
  • Fab Strength – steady paced weights workout
  • Lite Pace – gentle, low impact aerobic workout
  • Zumba Gold – low intensity dancing
  • Wellness classes – yoga, pilates, Tai Chi, meditation and stretch and stabilise
  • Gentle exercise – seated/chair-based exercise
