The popular Detox Your Home service returns this month

9 Aug 2018

Whitehorse residents can take part in the annual Detox Your Home program this month to access a safe, free service to dispose of household chemicals without harming their health or the environment.

Whitehorse Councillor Blair Barker said the next household chemical collection service situated close to Whitehorse would be held in Camberwell on Saturday 18 August 9am-3pm.

“This is a free initiative by Sustainability Victoria with local government and gives the community the opportunity to get rid of unwanted and potentially dangerous items such as pesticides, detergents, paint stripper and weed killers,” Cr Barker said.

It is wise to regularly dispose of unwanted household chemicals as they can harm your family and pets if used incorrectly or left lying around. They can act as fuel in a house fire, release toxic fumes, are poisonous if consumed and they can pollute the environment for future generations.

“The Detox Your Home mobile service safely disposes of unwanted items, which are recycled and diverted from landfill,” Cr Barker said.

You must register to use the service on 18 August and to receive the address of the collection point.
