The popular Garage Sale Trail is on again this year and it’s easy for Whitehorse locals to get involved in this national campaign aimed at reusing a wealth of items and reducing waste.
Whitehorse Councillor Sharon Ellis said the trail allowed individuals, community groups and businesses to organise their garage sales all over Australia for the same day in October and use a central website to let others know about them.
“The Garage Sale Trail aims to reduce waste to landfill by selling reusable household items that others can benefit from. It is now a popular event right around the country and Whitehorse residents have a great record of participation,” Cr Ellis said.
This year the Garage Sale Trail will be held on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 October.
Whitehorse residents can get involved by registering a garage sale up until the day of the sale. They can also purchase a bargain on the day by following a map of garage sales.
“Second-hand shopping at garage sales has many benefits for the environment and the local community. The products are usually less expensive and don’t rely on virgin resources. There is no additional pollution generated and they don’t generally come with additional packaging,” Cr Ellis said.
