Free e-waste recycling service supports State Government ban

10 Apr 2019

Council’s successful free TV and computer recycling drop-off service has been extended to take a broader range of e-waste items for recycling.

Whitehorse Mayor Councillor Bill Bennett said the service is part of Council’s response to the upcoming State Government ban on e-waste being sent to Victorian landfills.  E-waste items are anything with a battery or power cord.

“This scheme diverts e-waste from landfill and makes use of electronic components that have a second life, including some costly and rare material found in e-waste,” Cr Bennett said.

The e-waste recycling drop-off service is at the Whitehorse Recycling and Waste Centre, corner of Burwood Highway and Morack Road, Vermont South.

Items the recycling service accepts include:

  • TVs, Computers and their peripherals
  • Kitchen Appliances
  • Cameras
  • DVD players
  • Video recorders
  • Hi Fi Speakers
  • Sound equipment
  • Medical equipment
  • Cooling Devices
  • Heating Devices
  • Mobile & Landline phones
  • VHS tapes CDs and DVDs
  • Electronic Garden Equipment/Tools
