Why children behave the way they do is a mystery to many, but Council’s Parenting Information Forum this month will explore the reasons behind a range of children’s behaviours.
Whitehorse Mayor Councillor Bill Bennett said the popular annual series of parenting forums always attracted an interested audience seeking professional advice on issues surrounding family life and relating to their children.
“As a parent and a grandparent, I know this forum will be a useful one for parents and carers who are often surprised by children’s behaviour and your reactions to events. Adults are often at a loss to know how to cope,” Cr Bennett said.
“Is the child tired, hungry, out of their comfort zone or testing boundaries? Understanding why children behave the way they do and responding appropriately is the first step towards an emotionally healthy child and calm parent or carer.”
Participants will also learn practical strategies for supporting children and guiding behaviours in appropriate ways. There will also be the opportunity to ask questions and address real-life situations.
The forum presenter is Angela McGann, an expert in early childhood education and special education and a consultant with parent support organisation Early Life Foundations.
