Nominations are now open for the Whitehorse Sport and Recreation Australia Day Trophy, presented by the Mayor each year as part of Council’s Australia Day celebrations.
Whitehorse Mayor Councillor Denise Massoud said the trophy was awarded annually to a sporting club, recreation club or community group based in the City of Whitehorse.
“This trophy is a wonderful way to recognise the outstanding efforts made by a club or group and their contribution to the Whitehorse community,” Cr Massoud said.
“Council is always proud to award the work done towards creating a project or providing opportunities that have benefitted the broader Whitehorse community.”
Winning efforts can come in many forms, from fundraising and charity work to giving disadvantaged groups in the community an opportunity to become involved with a sporting club or group.
Winning efforts are often unique and not necessarily part of the general ongoing operations of a club. They can include such things as tutoring in local clubrooms for club members doing VCE, a charity match, fundraising or cultural activities.
Now is a good time to start thinking about any clubs or community groups you know that may be a promising candidate for the 2018 Australia Day Trophy. Support your local club or community group and help them get noticed for all their hard work and effort!
Nominations close at 5pm on Friday 27 October 2017.
