The Garage Sale Trail is now a two-day event

14 Sep 2017

The popular annual Garage Sale Trail has been expanded this year and for the first time will run over a full weekend, 21-22 October.

Whitehorse Councillor Bill Bennett said it’s easy for Whitehorse locals to get involved in the national campaign aimed at reusing a wealth of items and reducing waste.

“This is a good time to start planning your garage sale if you want to join the trail. You can hold a sale as an individual, as a family or team up with friends or neighbours and start organising your merchandise,” Cr Bennett said.

“Council supports the Garage Sale Trail as a great way to reuse and recycle in the local community and keep waste to landfill down by selling still-usable items.”

Second-hand shopping at garage sales has many benefits for the environment and the local community. The products are usually less expensive and don’t rely on virgin resources. There is no additional pollution generated and they don’t generally come with additional packaging.

The trail allows individuals, community groups and businesses to organise their garage sales all over Australia for the same weekend in October and use a central website to let others know about them.

Whitehorse residents can get involved by registering a garage sale at www.garagesaletrail.com.au/City-of-Whitehorse up until the day of the sale. Shoppers can purchase a bargain on the day by following a map of garage sales they can get online at the same internet address.
