Volunteer for meals on wheels

23 Nov 2017

Council is seeking new volunteers to come on board and help with delivering meals on wheels to 300 local residents.

Whitehorse Mayor Councillor Andrew Davenport said Council was looking for committed, caring, enthusiastic, flexible, positive people with exceptional communication skills to assist in the delivery of meals on wheels and monitor the wellbeing of meal recipients.

“Our volunteers deliver more than 1200 meals each week,” Cr Davenport said.

“Volunteers are happier and healthier and make a valuable contribution to our community. Volunteering also provides a valuable social connection to someone who might otherwise not have family or friends close by.”

Volunteers in this program can apply to be either a 'driver' or a 'jockey'.  Drivers and jockeys undertake shifts that are approximately two hours in length between 10.30am – 12.30pm.

There is also an opportunity for people to sign up as relief volunteers, to help out during those times the regular volunteers are unavailable.

Volunteers are also expected to attend a minimum of two training sessions per year.
