X-ray recycling free drop off service

Residents can drop off their unwanted x-ray films for recycling in the specially labelled x-ray recycling bins located at various Council-operated sites including:

  • Whitehorse Civic Centre, 379-397 Whitehorse Road, Nunawading
  • Box Hill Customer Service Centre, Box Hill Town Hall, 1022 Whitehorse Road, Box Hill
  • Forest Hill Customer Service Centre, Level 2, Forest Hill Chase Shopping Centre, Canterbury Road, Forest Hill

X-ray films can also be taken to the Whitehorse Recycling and Waste Centre, corner Burwood Hwy and Morack Road, Vermont South, for free recycling. Staff will collect them from the weighbridge entry of the centre.

Small numbers of x-ray films can also be posted directly back to Council’s contractor:

X-ray films contain silver that is extracted in Melbourne. The silver can then be reused for things such as silver solder, jewellery, the silver plating of utensils, electrical components and film manufacture.

This service will not accept commercial quantities of x-ray films.
