Asthma and Thunderstorm Asthma

Asthma is a disease of the airways that affects the flow of air into the lungs. Thunderstorm asthma is a potent mix of pollen and weather conditions that can trigger severe asthma symptoms in a large number of people over a short period of time.

There is no cure for asthma but there are medicines that help people to manage their breathing and live full and active lives.

The most common signs of asthma are:

  • Wheezing, a high pitched sound coming from the chest while breathing
  • Shortness of breath and feeling like you cannot get enough air
  • A tightness in the chest
  • Coughing can also occur with other symptoms
