The festive season is a fun time to enjoy with family and friends although can leave us with additional waste that may not fit or belong in the kerbside bins. This may cause collection issues if not disposed of correctly. Here are some helpful ways to dispose of your waste responsibly.
Here are some ways to recycle your living Christmas tree, so it can be used as valuable mulch:
- Have a clean out this summer and book a hard waste collection. Residents are entitled to two free hard waste collections each financial year.
Please note: bookings may take up to two weeks in peak times.
- Drop your live tree off at the Whitehorse Recycling and Waste Centre (charges apply).
- Arrange to have your tree mulched on site. Your neighbours may have a mulcher you can borrow, otherwise there are private contractors or you can hire a mulcher. Mulch is valuable to use either as compost or placed on your garden to assist retaining water in the soil.
Please note plastic trees cannot be recycled.

Battery and Electrical Waste (e-waste) Recycling
Did you receive new gadgets or toys this Christmas? Remember to dispose of e-waste and batteries responsibly. Avoid these items in kerbside bins, as they contain toxic substances and can start a fire in your bin, the collection truck or landfill/ the recycling facility.
