National Sorry Day is held annually on 26 May and recognises the impact of Australian historical policies, practices and attitudes on First Nations people. Council’s flag-raising ceremony will commemorate past injustices and honour the ongoing survival of the world’s oldest known living culture.

National Sorry Day marks the beginning of Reconciliation Week, which runs annually from 27 May to 3 June. The theme this year is ‘Be a Voice for Generations’.

‘Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities ...[and] as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’.
