The Premier has announced a 2-week extension to lockdown plus curfew until 11:59pm Thursday 2 September 2021. Strengthened restrictions will apply from tonight, across metropolitan Melbourne.
The five reasons to leave home within 5km remain:
- shopping for the things you need – one person per household per day
- care and caregiving, medical attention
- exercise for up to two hours, with one other person plus dependants if they cannot be left unsupervised. The other person can be from another household
- authorised work and study, with an Authorised Worker Permit or permit for authorised higher education
- to get a vaccine
Picnics and outdoor gatherings are not permitted.
Curfew and work
Curfew will be imposed between 9pm to 5am every night, with very limited reasons to leave home.
Authorised workers will be required to carry their permits when working and commuting to and from work starting 11:59pm Tuesday 17 August.
Travel restriction – 5km limit
Travel limit of 5km from home, except to:
- return home
- access necessary goods and services where those goods and services cannot be accessed closer than 5kms from home
- visit an intimate partner
- visit a person in your “single bubble”
- travel for authorised work and permitted education
- work at an interstate location (where permitted by another state)
- provide care and compassionate reasons (specific exemptions apply)
To reduce public gatherings where transmission could happen, playgrounds, basketball hoops, skate parks and outdoor exercise equipment will be closed.
Exercise will be allowed with one other person plus dependants if they can’t be left alone at home. The other person can be from another household.
Face masks must be worn inside and outdoors when away from home - unless an exemption applies. Face masks can only be removed to eat and to drink non-alcoholic beverages.
Education and childcare
Early learning centres, childcare, family day care stay open. Schools remain closed but open to vulnerable children and the children of authorised workers. Higher education and training are closed with remote learning only except for programs on the Authorised Premises and Authorised Workers list.
Where a parent or carer indicates that a student with a disability cannot learn from home due to vulnerability or family stress, the school must provide on-site learning for that student. This will apply to students enrolled in specialist schools and students with a disability enrolled in mainstream schools.
Aqualink, Sportlink, arts facilities, Youth Connexions and libraries remain closed. We will continue to provide essential services to the Whitehorse community, such as Meals on Wheels, waste collection, Maternal Child Health Services and childhood immunisation.
Our Customer Service centres will be closed to visitors. They will continue to serve our community, but this will be online, via Council’s website, phone on 9262 6333 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org and not in person.
Many of our staff are working from home to continue providing a wide range of Council services. You can still reach us through our website or on 9262 6333.
