Since 16 June 2026 Schedule 9 to the Significant Landscape Overlay (SLO9) no longer applies to land in Whitehorse.
SLO9 was introduced on an interim basis in February 2018 to protect existing and establishing trees and the landscape character of the municipality.
The Minister for Planning extended the expiry date of SLO9 nine times until the controls were allowed to lapse on 16 June 2026.
The Department of Transport and Planning advised that SLO9 was allowed to lapse because ‘the need for a municipal wide local provision has been superseded by the introduction of the state standard provision’.
