Did you know that as of September 2024, 22 per cent of Whitehorse homes have installed solar PV systems? This number continues to grow each year.

You can join the growing number of people becoming energy independent, making their homes more comfortable, saving money, and helping the environment by generating your own clean, renewable energy at home. Register with Solar Savers, a Council-supported program making it easier for home-owners, renters and businesses to install solar panels, batteries, efficient split systems and hot water heat pumps.

Already have solar? Here are some tips to help you make the most of your solar:

  • It is cheaper to run your home using the electricity generated from your solar panels compared to using grid electricity, so find out when your solar system produces the most electricity. Have a look at the numbers on your inverter to see when it is producing the most electricity. This is usually 10 am - 4 pm.
  • Maximise your solar electricity use by setting timers on your appliances to times when your solar system produces the most electricity. This is called "load-shifting". Some appliances like dishwashers, washing machines, hot water heat pumps, and reverse-cycle split systems for heating and cooling may have in-built timers.
  • Replace older gas appliances with electric appliances. Why use gas when you have cheaper solar electricity?
  • Keep your solar system working their best by having regular servicing and cleaning every few years by a qualified solar panel electrician to spot any faults to optimise energy output.
