Whitehorse City Council

Garden Organics Service

Council has an optional, user-pays fortnightly garden organics service that collects garden waste. Leaves, weeds, small garden prunings, grass clippings, flowers and small branches can be recycled in the garden organics bin. There is a $65 annual fee for this service as well as a one-off registration fee of $80 to get a garden bin and register for the service.

Ordering, Cancelling or Changing Garden Organic Bin Services

Refer to the Waste and Recycling page for details of how to order a new bin, cancel a bin or change (size increase or decrease) an existing bin service.

Damaged, Missing and Stolen Garden Organic Bins

Refer to the Waste and Recycling page for details of how to report a damaged, missing or stolen bin. Council will replace or repair your bin if it has been damaged or stolen.

To prevent damage or theft of your bins, please remove them from the kerbside on the same day as your waste collection.

What To Do If Your Garden Organic Bin Is Missed On Collection Day

Refer to the Waste and Recycling page for details of how to report a missed or partial bin collection. Please note that drivers will not return to pick up bins that weren't left out for collection on time. Bins will also not be emptied if they have been filled inappropriately or have been placed in such a way that the truck's lifting arm is not able to access or lift the bin. Please refer to the information above to find out how to place your bin on the street correctly.

The fortnightly garden organics service operates on the same day as the garbage bin collection and on alternate weeks to the recycling bin service.
