Working for Whitehorse - December 2023

Whitehorse News - December 2023

Meet Alex Kaszubski – Council's Economic Development Officer. She works with business owners throughout Whitehorse to provide them with support, opportunities and mentoring, and serves as Council’s liaison with business owners on key issues impacting them.

Alex joined Council in 2017 and worked in our Aqualink team in Memberships and Customer Service before she moved into her current role.

She leads initiatives such as our Think Local Buy Local program throughout the year, and our Festive Windows activation which is taking place in parts of the city this month.

“In Economic Development, it is said that ‘a rising tide raises all boats’. Our team focus is to ensure the continuation and development of a thriving business community through a range of services including business facilitation, mentoring and workshops,” she said.

Alex and her team also lead Council’s Placemaking program, which assists in activating shopping strips to welcome and connect the community.

They also advocate for the best outcomes for businesses who could be impacted by Victorian Government projects such as the Suburban Rail Loop.

“Many of our local businesses are family-owned businesses who form the backbone of our local economy and who themselves support our thriving and diverse community,” she said.

“I am regularly inspired by many of the passionate, creative, hard-working entrepreneurs operating in our municipality.”

Alex and the team are developing an Investment and Economic Development Strategy and will invite community feedback in early 2024.
