Changes to the Protected Disclosure Act 2012 become effective from 1 January 2020 when the legislation becomes known as the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2012. The changes are intended to make it easier to make a disclosure and provide for more independent expert bodies to investigate disclosures.
The main objective of the legislation is to encourage and facilitate the disclosure of improper conduct of public bodies and public officers. The scheme is important to enable people who report improper conduct and corruption to be protected, including keeping their identity confidential and protecting them from reprisals.

What Can You Do If You Have a Concern?
You may make an anonymous allegation, either in writing, by telephone or face to face.
Allegations regarding corrupt or improper conduct of a Councillor of the City of Whitehorse or the Chief Executive Officer should be directly sent to the:

All allegations will be regarded as extremely serious. The Public Interest Disclosures Coordinator will assess if the disclosure is a public interest disclosure in accordance with the guidelines and will refer 'public interest disclosures' to the appropriate authority for investigation.
