Councillor updates from Cr Jason Martin

There is plenty happening across Whitehorse, and it's exciting to see so many projects progressing that will benefit our community now and into the future. Council recently adopted the 2026–27 Budget, which continues our investment in the facilities, services and public spaces that make Whitehorse such a great place to live.

This budget includes a new water fountain at Brentford Square, the return of Mitcham Twilight Markets, and an upgrade to the Tainton Road Reserve Playground. These are just  a few examples of how we're investing in the places where people live, meet and connect. I'm also looking forward to the release of the final Mahoneys Reserve Masterplan.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to share your ideas during consultation. Whether you attended a community session or lodged a submission, your feedback has helped shape the long-term vision for this important community space. Community safety continues to be a priority for Council. While there's no single solution, we know the best outcomes come when Council, Victoria Police and our community work together. Whether it's improving public spaces, supporting local safety initiatives or simply reporting issues when they arise, we all have a role to play in keeping Whitehorse a safe and welcoming place.

Many residents have also contacted me about the State Government's Activity Centre planning for Blackburn, Nunawading and Mitcham. I know these proposals have raised questions about how our suburbs may change.  While these planning decisions are led by the State Government, Council will continue advocating for the infrastructure, open space, transport and facilities our growing community needs. Another exciting opportunity is the future of the Box Hill Brickworks site, a once-in-a-generation opportunity to deliver significant public open space for our community.
