Councillor update from Cr Prue Cutts for June/July 2026

in Somers Trail, Mitcham.
Many important projects and improvements were delivered across Simpson Ward during 2025-26, helping make our community safer, more accessible and more enjoyable for people of all ages.
- Council successfully advocated to the Department of Transport and Planning for speed limits to be reduced along Whitehorse and Deep Creek roads, including a 40 km/h schooltime speed limit near Antonio Park Primary School, improving safety for students, families and the wider community.
- Vermont Reserve Pavilion is progressing towards practical completion in late June, featuring a new pavilion wing with 4 female-friendly change rooms, umpire rooms and a medical room.
- Accessibility improvements were delivered at Rangeview shops, including lowered footpaths near the pedestrian crossing to assist people using walkers and mobility aids, along with improved disabled parking arrangements in the eastern car park.
- Purches Street resurfacing works were completed between Denis Street, Vermont, and Kulnine Street, Mitcham.
- New outdoor fitness equipment is being installed at Somers Trail, Mitcham, near the Chasta Crescent playground on the former scout hall site.
- The Vermont East shopping strip upgrade continues to progress well, improving accessibility and supporting local businesses ahead of completion in late June. Please support these businesses at this time of significant disruption.
- Detailed design work was completed for new indented parking outside the 1st Heatherdale Scout Hall in Purches Street, Mitcham, with construction scheduled for 2026-27.
