Clean Up Australia Day

Clean Up Australia Day is Australia's largest community-based environmental event. Residents, schools, community groups and businesses in Whitehorse can join together with hundreds of thousands of volunteers across the country for this great initiative.

We encourage you to Step up to Clean up this year and host your own event.

Each year, up to 130,000 tonnes of plastic finds its way into our waterways and oceans. Clean Up Australia Day is an opportunity to come together, roll our sleeves up and tidy up the beautiful open spaces we have and treasure in Whitehorse.

Since 1989 when Ian Kiernan had the simple idea to clean up Sydney Harbour, Clean Up Australia Day participants have collected more than 200,000 tonnes of rubbish – that's 4.7 million household wheelie bins.

Clean Up Australia Day is fun and everyone can get involved. Individuals and local groups can either organise a Clean Up site – such as a park, waterway or bushland area – or volunteer to join an existing site.

Council has cancelled our Clean Up Australia Day event at Lookout Trail Park due to snake activity in the area. This site is currently home to two mating lowland copperhead snakes and we have cancelled the event for the safety of those attending and the snakes.
