Council hosts National Tree Day annually with the help of our community. National Tree Day supports our Urban Forest Strategy objectives of enhancing biodiversity, extending our urban forest and our target of increasing canopy cover.
National Tree Day 2026
Come along and contribute to local biodiversity by planting with us this National Tree Day on Sunday 26 July 2026.

Past National Tree Days
In 2023 we created new garden beds as part of the green corridors program at the Gardiners Creek Trail Reserve. Gardiners Creek was the first corridor chosen in this program that involved a concentrated effort towards improvements to biodiversity, habitat and tree canopy coverage.

Community participants: 450+
Local Indigenous Plants planted on site to expand the biodiversity and habitat: 3500+
Local Indigenous Trees planted on site to expand the canopy: 50+
Mulch spread on site: 20M3+
Sausage sizzle snags consumed on site: 430+
In 2024 we continued to plant along the Gardiners Creek Trail Reserve and infill planted the 2023 planting site, while also extending further through the Gardiners Creek corridor. Despite the wind and threats of rain, all our volunteers worked hard to plant this now flourishing spot.

In 2025 we planted in Wurundjeri Walk in Blackburn South. We had plenty of volunteers in attendance despite the uncertain weather, which turned out to be a beautiful day! If you would like to view the newly planted out area, it can be best accessed from Orchard Grove in Blackburn South.
