Councillor update from Cr Andrew Davenport
Budget 2027/2028
As Council continues delivering the 2026/27 Budget, planning is already underway for the 2027/28 financial year. Community feedback plays an important role in shaping future priorities, and I welcome suggestions from residents on areas where Council can improve services, invest in local initiatives, or identify opportunities to reduce waste and improve efficiency. If you have an idea you would like Council to consider, please contact me.
Expanding Access to Our Libraries
I am pleased to share that at the Council meeting on 22 June 2026, Councillors supported a motion to introduce an Open Library trial at Nunawading Library. Open Library programs allow registered and inducted members to access library facilities beyond standard staffed hours, with proposed access available between 8am and 10pm, 7 days a week.
This initiative aims to provide greater flexibility for residents to study, work, read and access library resources at times that suit them. Planning for the trial is now underway, with further details to be announced in the coming months.
Have Your Say on Bennettswood Reserve
Bennettswood Reserve and Gardiners Creek are valued community spaces that support sport, recreation, social connection and enjoyment of the natural environment. Council is currently seeking community feedback on a proposed master plan for the reserve, including improvements to the Northern Oval precinct and surrounding areas to help meet the needs of our growing community.
Consultation is open until 9 August 2026. I encourage residents to review the plans and share their views at: yoursay.whitehorse.vic.gov.au/ bennettswood-reserve
Thank You for Supporting National Tree Day
Thank you to everyone who participated in National Tree Day 2026, including those who attended planting activities across Whitehorse. A special thank you goes to the Friends of Gardiners Creek Reserve for hosting the local event at Gardiners Creek.
Community planting efforts make a lasting contribution to our local environment. Over time, these projects help enhance biodiversity, improve green spaces and create healthier habitats for future generations. I look forward to seeing this year’s plantings grow and thrive in the years ahead.
