Budget 2025/2026

Thank you for those who made a budget submission to the 2025/26 budget. Through your feedback, we have adjusted the budget to allow an additional $150K for an integrated transport strategy, as well as an adjustment of focus to further aims for the provision of a dog park.

Well done to Blackburn High School Jazz Band, one of 3 international school bands who competed in the Essentially Ellington Festival.

It was great to celebrate the recent completion of the electronic scoreboard at Koonung Reserve.

Thank you to all those who took part in the budget consultation process.

I was pleased to support Council no longer relying on carbon credit schemes but working towards emission reductions. I was also proud to bring a motion to the chamber to continue to improve transparency in Council.

If I can assist in any way, please contact me via email, phone, or Facebook, @crkieransimpson.

Remember when community bonds felt stronger, and public spaces were better cared for? You are invited to meet with me to discuss setting up a community group focused on improving Blackburn South, Burwood East, and surrounding areas. Interested? Join me from 10am, Saturday 19 July at The Hollow, Burwood Brickworks Shopping Centre (70 Middleborough Rd, Burwood East).

Visit council’s ‘Your Say’ webpage by 15 July to provide feedback on a substantial long-term plan for improving Mirrabooka, Orchard Grove and Fulton Reserves. On 27 July (National Tree Day), you can also join me in planting 4,000 plants at Wurundjeri Walk from 10am followed by a BBQ

It was energising and uplifting to join over 30 locals at Box Hill Town Hall for the first meeting of a community led initiative ‘Safe Streets-Box Hill (SSBH) North’ set up by local mum Kelly. I was especially proud of the evident motivation to continue building a local community where people care for one another and co-operate to make our little corner of Melbourne a little better every day.  I look forward to supporting Kelly and the SSBH group as they continue local action and am sure it will help inform city-wide initiatives.

Cr Kirsten Langford

Cr Kirsten Langford
Kingsley Ward

Being a councillor in Kingsley Ward has been very rewarding. I love the challenges, particularly when I can be of service to get an outcome that benefits individuals, businesses, or community groups.

If you need any help on council issues please either give me a call or send an email.

Recent activities include:

  • Community Consultation on traffic calming measures in Rostrevor Parade, Mont Albert North.
  • New drainage installation – Leopold Ave, Mont Albert.
  • Whitehorse Road, Mont Albert – customers have found current parking restrictions frustrating – council is working closely with local businesses and VicRoads for a better solution.
  • Mont Albert Village placemaking workshop attended by local businesses, residents, and council. This gathering of community provided inspiration and ideas to make Hamilton Street a significant destination for locals and visitors. More to come.
  • A traffic study on implementing Hamilton Street as one-way was recently completed and officers are working on next steps for delivery in the coming months.
  • New parking measures in Hawkins Avenue, Mont Albert North (see photo below).
  • Great to see the turf being laid at Northwest Oval, Surrey Park – can’t wait to see this important open space returned to the community for use.
  • Attending Australia Citizenship ceremony on 20 May, it is always an honour to congratulate new Australian Citizens and welcome them to their new home. I always endeavour to take as many photos as possible, which are published on my social media accounts.
  • It was a privilege to move the new Council Plan and Budget at the Council Meeting on 16 June, after collaboration with Councillors, Officers and consultation with Constituents. The motion included an amendment calling out for appropriate information to be shared with Whitehorse City Ratepayers about the new Emergency Services Volunteer Fund, which is being collected on behalf of the State Government by Council.
