The Gang-gang Cockatoo is an endangered species found throughout parts of south-eastern Australia and have been spotted locally in Whitehorse.

Male Gang-gang Cockatoos have a distinctive bright red head and crest, while females are predominantly grey, including the crest with orange and yellow flecks under markings.

Gang-gang Cockatoos are known for their unusual call, which sounds like a rusty hinge. They feed mainly on seeds, fruits, nuts and insects. Gang-gang Cockatoos breed in tree hollows and need a clean habitat for food and shelter.

• Picking up extra litter if you see it.
• Reporting litter and dumped rubbish.
