Purpose
The Multicultural Advisory Committee supports Council to identify enablers of social and cultural inclusion and create solutions that reduce potential barriers. It also assists Council in promoting social inclusion, cohesion and respect in the municipality through initiatives and opportunities that celebrate Whitehorse’s multicultural community.
Role
With a focus on multicultural communities, the Committee provides advice and feedback to Council on policies, plans, projects, services, communications and engagement, as well as opportunities and challenges affecting multicultural communities.
Membership and Meetings
The Committee meets four times per year at the Civic Centre. It comprises community members from across Whitehorse who live, work, study or participate in community life, reflecting the diversity of the municipality. It also includes two Councillors, Cr Andrew Davenport (Chair) and Mayor Kirsten Langford (Substitute Chair) with members appointed for a two-year term.
