Councillor update from Cr Kirsten Langford (Mayor)
Box Hill Brickworks – This is the Place for Open Space
Surrey Hills and Mont Albert have some of the lowest square metres of open space per resident in Melbourne. Having Box Hill Brickworks as Open Space would make up for the lack of it in Kingsley Ward. At the Community rally, I highlighted Council’s unanimous October 2025 decision to seek to purchase Box Hill Brickworks. We remain open to negotiations with the owner, a position supported by more than 1,500 rally attendees. This space would give the residents of Kingsley, Box Hill and Whitehorse a more liveable city. Remember DENSITY + OPEN SPACE = LIVABILITY
Hamilton St Streetscape
Community Engagement during August via Community Meeting where 50+ traders and residents attended, a street pop-up and Your Say, has been very successful with over 1000 people interacting with the draft design. We are looking forward to the final design prior to works commencing in 2027.
Mont Albert Moon Festival
On the 19th September Hamilton Street Mont Albert had an incredible Dragon and Lion Dance Parade to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. This was followed by a treasure hunt through the Mont Albert Village which was enjoyed by children and parents.
New Mont Albert Road Park
Draft designs for the new Mont Albert Rd Park are currently being prepared – once they are finalised, Council would love to hear what you think. Your Say is due to kick off around November.
