Gardiners Creek Revegetation Project - Update

In January 2025, Council was successful in receiving $189,388 from the Australian Government under the Urban Rivers and Catchments Program for a 3-year revegetation project at Gardiners Creek.

Since receiving the positive news, we have been undertaking improvements to regenerate and extend native vegetation along the creek including the wetland area adjacent to Gardiners Creek for the benefit of improving habitat values for local flora and fauna.

Works have included removal of woody weeds, site preparation, mulching, new fencing and weed control. This year we will undertake native and indigenous plantings to improve ground cover and increase the extent of canopy trees.

Our project outcomes

  • Improve canopy density and vegetation cover through the revegetation of indigenous trees, shrubs, grasses, wetland plants and groundcovers.
  • Remove and control weedy grasses and woody weeds and increase indigenous vegetation including the planting of canopy trees.
  • Increase connectivity along the Gardiners Creek Corridor through this restoration to benefit native species such as the Gang-gang cockatoo, Spotted pardalote, Eastern Yellow Robin, Brown goshawk, Sugar glider & Common imperial blue butterfly.
