Step 4: Apply for a Vehicle Crossing Permit

Vehicle crossing permits are valid for 6 months from the date of issue and will expire if the work is not started during this time.

For future works, you can apply now and we will assess your application and place it on hold for a maximum of 12 months.

  • You will need to advise us at least 2 weeks before you are ready to start the works.
  • After 12 months, if we have not issued the permit, your application will lapse and you will need to reapply.

How to Apply

Apply online and upload the following documentation:

  • The contractor’s public liability insurance certificate that:
    • Is valid for the period of the vehicle crossing works
    • Is for a minimum of $20 million cover
    • Is a 'certificate of currency' (we cannot accept an invoice or schedule)
  • Any other written approvals from any other relevant authorities or Council departments.

Please allow 10 business days for processing and assessment of your application.

You must not start works until you receive a permit.

Onsite Inspection

A Council Inspector will conduct an onsite assessment. This will be on a weekday, Monday-Friday, between 9:30am and 1:30pm.

If you have said in your application that you would like to be present during the inspection, Council will contact you, usually by phone, to arrange the time.

The inspector will contact you if they have any questions or need further information about the proposed work.

Approval

Once your application is approved, we will email a permit to you.

The permit will include details of the approved works, specifications and standard drawing/s which apply to these works.

The permit and supporting details need to be given to your concreter before the works start.

Pre-Pour Inspection

The Council Inspector will check the formwork and setup before the concrete can be poured and the contractor should be onsite during the inspection.

  • The pre-pour inspection can be booked by either the permit holder or the concreter by phoning Engineering Administration on 9262 6177 at least 3 business days before you intend to start work.
  • The exact booking time you require may not always be available, depending on demand.

Once the pre-pour inspection is approved you can pour the concrete.
